Social Security
Can I work and collect Social Security?
Yes, but before full retirement age an earnings limit temporarily withholds part of the benefit. After it, you can earn anything.
If you claim before your full retirement age and keep working, earnings above an annual limit reduce the benefit that year. The withheld money is not lost: once you reach full retirement age, your benefit is recalculated upward to account for what was held back.
In the year you reach full retirement age a more generous limit applies, counting only the months before your birthday. From that month on, the earnings test disappears entirely and you can work as much as you like with no reduction at all.
