Accounts
Can you use an HSA with direct primary care?
It depends on how the practice structures its fee, and the rules have moved. Ask your tax adviser before assuming the membership qualifies.
Health savings accounts pay for qualified medical expenses, and a periodic membership fee has historically sat in an awkward place: part of it buys services, part of it buys availability. Whether a direct primary care fee counts, and whether holding one affects your eligibility to contribute at all, has been the subject of repeated legislative proposals.
What is not in doubt is the pairing itself. A DPC membership alongside an HSA-eligible high-deductible plan is a coherent strategy — the membership handles routine care, the plan handles a hospital admission, and the account builds for the deductible.
