Marketplace
What health insurance can 1099 contractors get?
Marketplace plans with premium tax credits, a spouse's employer plan, an association or group plan if you have employees, and in a real gap, short-term cover.
For most contractors the Marketplace is the main road: guaranteed issue, no medical questions, and a premium tax credit based on expected household income. Because contractor income moves, the estimate deserves real thought — it is the number that sets what you pay each month.
A spouse's employer plan is often cheaper than anything you can buy alone and should always be priced first. If you have employees of your own, a small group or level-funded plan becomes possible, and it changes the tax treatment as well as the cost.
An estimate for planning, not a quote. Medicare and the Marketplace set your real figures.
