Medicare
Medigap Plan G or Plan N?
Plan G leaves you only the Part B deductible. Plan N costs less each month but adds small copays and the risk of excess charges.
Both are standardised, so a given letter covers exactly the same benefits whichever carrier sells it. Plan G pays essentially everything Original Medicare leaves behind once the annual Part B deductible is met. Plan N does the same but keeps small copays for office and emergency visits and does not cover Part B excess charges.
The decision is arithmetic. Work out the annual premium difference, then estimate your visits and check whether your doctors accept assignment. Frequent visitors often come out ahead on G; light users in areas where excess charges are rare often come out ahead on N. Our comparison tool runs both with clearly labelled sample figures.
An estimate for planning, not a quote. Medicare and the Marketplace set your real figures.
