Medicare
When is the Medicare Annual Enrolment Period?
15 October to 7 December each year, for changes that take effect on 1 January.
During those weeks you can join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage plan or a Part D drug plan as often as you like — the last change on file wins. There is a further window from 1 January to 31 March for people already in an Advantage plan, allowing one switch or a return to Original Medicare.
The Annual Enrolment Period is not when you first sign up for Medicare; that is your initial enrolment period around your sixty-fifth birthday, or a special enrolment period after employment ends. And it does not give guaranteed-issue rights to buy a Medicare Supplement, which is a separate set of rules entirely.
