Tybee is eighteen miles east of Savannah at the end of US 80, and that road is the only way on or off the island. The year-round population is small and skews older; the summer population is not. Both facts change what a sensible plan looks like.
Local care
There is no hospital on the island. The nearest emergency rooms are in Savannah — Memorial and Candler — roughly half an hour away in good conditions and considerably longer when the highway is busy or flooded.
