The state line is a network line
A Jasper County household that has always used Savannah doctors is crossing a state border every time. Some plans handle that comfortably and some do not, so for anyone within half an hour of the river the out-of-state question is the first one we ask, not the last.
Beaufort County is two markets, not one
Hilton Head Island and the northern end of the county are served by different hospitals and, often, by different network tiers of the same plan. A plan that looks identical on paper can behave very differently depending on which bridge you live past.
Seasonal residents and permanent residence
Plenty of Lowcountry households spend part of the year elsewhere. Medicare cares where you permanently live, and a genuine permanent move opens a Special Enrolment Period. Splitting the year does not, which surprises people every single autumn.
Rural pharmacy access
In Hampton and inland Colleton, the nearest preferred pharmacy for a given Part D plan can be a thirty-minute drive while another plan has one in the village. That difference is usually worth more over a year than the difference in premium.
